Of Cows and Rhinos

My parents and I have often debated on the issue of work and financial security. My parents’ idea of an ideal life is to study hard, get good results, find a good secure job, then work hard, rise in ranks and lastly retire and live on your pensions (all of which I’ve done except for the retiring part - I’m still young!).  I’m sure nothing of what I’ve said is new to most of you.

I adore my folks and they have done a great job raising me for which I am thankful for. They’ve also managed to built a pretty comfortable lifestyle from my father’s secure earnings. However, from what I’ve learned, being comfortable won’t guarantee you financial freedom if that’s ever your goal. I for one am no expert in this field, for now. However, I have recently developed an insatiable desire for knowledge on wealth creation and because of that, I am calling this month “my month of wealth creation read” (and anything in between for that matter eg. money management, finance, investement etc). On the same note, I was actually surfing the internet for more materials to read on managing money when I came across a pretty informative blog by a local (Malaysian) blogger. I shall be putting him in my blogroll. From his blog I can tell he knows alot about finance. But more about this mystery blogger later.

This month I managed to read Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker in just one week (haha..nothing to brag about right? But I still consider it an accomplishment seemingly that I only get the opportunity to read in between other pressing commitments - son, work, family, internet marketing..). Those great people who read my former blog would know that I can’t stop raving about that particular book. It is so jam-packed with fabulous millionaire mind tips!! I shall be reading it over and over again at least once a month until the whole concept registers in my mind - my thoughts become my words, my words become my actions, and my actions become my results - who I am or who I become.

Ohh.. yes.. back to what I had in mind initially when I started writing today’s entry..of Cows and Rhinos..

Just before going-home-time today, I listened to an audio CD on Murphy’s Committee. It’s one of those valuable CDs/DVDs I’d gotten from my Success University premium member package (yeah..yeah.. it took me that long to get a chance to listen to it). The contents of this audio is truly fantastic. I must say I love the concept brought about by the author. It’s a bit like a theory which goes something like this:

We basically are either a rhino or a cow (not animal personality again! - you say;p) in nature. In life, there is paradise waiting for us on the otherside of the jungle. While cows prefer to graze in the field and be safe, secure and comfortable, rhinos on the other hand prefer braving the jungle courageously as their mission is to reach to the other side that is paradise.  From this simple concept, I am sure you can clearly detect two deferring personalities/mentalities. A cow likes to play it safe, would not venture out and practically leads a boring life. Rhinos have the will power to strive and will go after their dreams no matter what the challenges that lies ahead. Rhinos will in the end come out the champions. I would consider myself a young rhino in the making. What about you?
